AKIPRESS.COM – US authorities and Interpol are looking for Nodir Yunusov, the founder of the Samo pharmaceutical company. This company supplied iodine preparations that were taken by children poisoned in Uzbekistan, Uzbek blogger Nikita Makarenko stated on his page on social media.
The investigation took place in Kansas City, Missouri from 2005 to 2009. According to US authorities, 23-year-old Uzbek Yunusov, working for Giant Labor Solutions (GLS), illegally hired foreign citizens, trafficked people and forced them to work. Some of Yunusov’s accomplices were detained that same year, but he and his accomplices Agzamov and Shukurov escaped.
According to the website Orginfo.uz, Nodir Yunusov owns 6.9% in the authorized capital of Samo, a company that supplied iodine preparations that children in Uzbekistan took in schools and kindergartens. Another 36.5% and 33.5% belong to Farukh and Khalida Yunusov, while 22.4% to Nargiz Ilkhamova.
The Ministry of Health of Uzbekistan purchased 3.55 million packages of Antistrumin (potassium iodide) from Samo for almost 22 billion soums without a tender or 6,600 soums per package, gazeta.uz reports. The Prosecutor General’s Office on September 24 opened a criminal case on violation of sanitary legislation or rules for combating epidemics in connection with the poisoning of children in Namangan region. The number of children who were sent to hospitals after mandatory intake of the iodine-containing drug Antistrumin exceeds 600.
