Reading opens a child’s imagination to a world of possibilities. A U.S.-backed literacy program in Uzbekistan provides opportunities to promote a love of reading among young children. Mercy Corps, a U.S. nonprofit organization, is partnering with the U.S. Department of Agriculture to donate children’s books to Uzbekistan’s schools and create reading corners that encourage reading. Reading rooms in 58 schools The program set up reading corners in 58 schools with books, bookshelves and cushions. UAE-based energy company Masdar has signed a joint development agreement with Uzbekistan’s Ministry of Energy and Ministry of Investments, Industry and Trade to develop 2GW of renewable energy and 500MWh of solar, wind and battery storage projects across the Central Asian country. Negotiations are currently underway for the uninterrupted circulation of cargo trucks through the border crossings in Lithuania. Poland closed the border to the transit of cargo trucks to and from Belarus on February 21st as part of the escalation of sanctions against the latter, which has affected transport companies from other countries that use Belarusian territory to arrive to the EU market.
