Mr Vlad Marinescu, IJF Director General

On behalf of the Ministry of Youth Policy and Sport, I would like to welcome each of you to Tashkent for the draw ceremony of the Tashkent Grand Slam 2023. First of all let me express my gratitude for the trust placed in us by the IJF to hold this sporting event in our country. It is one of the most important events in the run up to the Olympic Games in Paris 2024.

We can be proud that Uzbekistan has a long experience hosting IJF tournaments. This grand slam is organised for the second time. I have to especially admit that the success of the world championships in 2022 was a great honour for all of us and we are proud that our athletes won two gold medals.

Dr Adham Ikramov, Minister of Youth Policy and Sports of the Republic of Uzbekistan

I am assuring you that this event will be organised at the highest level too. There is special care from the government, from our President, H.E. Shavkat Mirziyoyev. A special decree was signed last year by our President and today in the different regions of Uzbekistan we created and opened several IJF schools at primary school level.

We expect this tournament to be a sparkling event and that this competition will bring opportunities to earn valuable points for Olympic qualification for Paris 2024.
