ST. LOUIS – International Break for most of the soccer world has commenced and many of the top United States players in Europe are set to land in St. Louis this weekend as the US Men’s National Team will play a friendly against Uzbekistan Saturday at 3:30 p.m. at the CITYPARK. For the Uzbekistan community in the United States and in St. Louis, it is an exciting experience to watch their origin country play a match against the USMNT.
Bobur Hasan, a representative from the St. Louis Uzbek diaspora group, joined Total Information A.M. in studio Thursday to talk about the Uzbekistan community in St. Louis and America and the excitement over the soccer match at CITYPARK. Hasan first moved to the U.S. from Uzbekistan in 2006. His family, along with his brothers were already in St. Louis.
“St. Louis is a great city, all four seasons, there’s great people here,” said Hasan. Hasan says when he first arrived, there was barely any Uzbekistan presence in the St. Louis-area with only two or three families in the area. In 2023, that number has grown, with 120 families and around thousand people with Uzbekistan origins now live in the area.
Hasan says the Uzbekistan community is excited nationally to see the country’s soccer team play the USMNT at CITYPARK, with many across the country set to join come to St. Louis to watch the match. “This is a historic soccer game. We’re waiting for Saturday,” said Hasan, “I know alot of Uzbek’s people from across 40 states to watch the game. Uzbek’s love their soccer.”
