The Women’s IHF Trophy Continental Phase Asia, which started on 6 November in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, has already reached its midway point. The home teams lead the race at both the youth and the junior competitions.
In the youth (U17) event, 10 goals from Ilmira Bayjanova propelled Uzbekistan to an opening 34:13 win against Hong Kong, and the Uzbeks went on to take another commanding win against Bangladesh, 43:26. Besides, Hong Kong defeated Bangladesh 29:22, so Uzbekistan have four points, Hong Kong two, and Bangladesh are yet to claim their maiden points.
The tournament is held in a double round-robin format, so the participants will meet each other once again. On Thursday 9 November, Hong Kong face Uzbekistan at 15:00 (local time).
In the junior (U19) competition, Uzbekistan proved too strong for Hong Kong on day one, 47:22. Then India beat Hong Kong 37:22, and the Uzbeks had the upper hand against India, 44:37, as their player Sevinch Erkabaeva had a crucial impact with her 14 goals.
The home side has a maximum of four points, while India are on two points, and Hong Kong have no points. On Thursday, India and Uzbekistan face off at 17:00.
